Make it safe
Things to remember when arranging that first date
When arranging dates, use your common sense, and don't forget these simple rules. Some of these points may seem over-cautious, but if the person you meet is genuine, they will understand.
- Keep it public
Arrange meetings in public places (eg, restaurants, pubs, etc), not in your home. - Keep your details to yourself
Don't give your address until you are sure that you want to continue the relationship. - Trust your instincts
Trust your instincts and don't meet again if you have any doubts. - Make your own way
On your first meeting, it is best to make your own way to and from the venue. It is best not to accept an offer of transport. - Keep others informed
Leave details of your meeting with family or friends when seeing a respondent for the first time. - Take a friend
If you feel uncomfortable about going on that first date, you could arrange a 'double date' by placing an ad with a friend. As well as being fun, you can get support from someone else and you can exchange ideas on picking a venue. - Drinking
Don't get too drunk. By all means, have a few drinks so you are sociable and more laid back but do not drink in excess.
